THE FRESH AND ONLYS - The Fresh and Onlys

San Francisco band's debut. Reverby 60's influenced pop/garage rock/pscyh with male vocals and female backing vox. Overall really cool. Recommended if you like Thee Oh Sees, Raveonettes, and similar bands.

THE LOVETONES - Dimensions

Dimensions is the Australian band's fourth album. Frontman Matthew Tow was previously in the band Drop City, recorded several solo albums under the name Colorsound, and also played guitar for the Brian Jonestown Massacre on one of their tours and wrote two songs for the BJM's album This Is Our Music. The Lovetones play psychedelic rock/pop that has a very distinct 60's influence. They're alright.

Evangelicals - The Evening Descends

The Evening Descends cover art
Psychedelic pop/rock weirdness. Reminds me of Animal Collective minus the folk influences combined with the spaced out trippiness of the Flaming Lips. Kinda cool if you like non-conventional music, I suppose.

Apes - Ghost Games

Ghost Games cover art
The fourth full-length from this Washington, D.C. based band. They have a new singer for this release. It's experimental rock, with elements of neo-psychedelia, garage, punk, rock, and stoner metal thrown into the mix. There's a strong 1970's hard rock influence as well. The result is a fairly accessible, interesting album. However, it certainly is not for the unadventurous types or those who enjoy twee pop.
